On Tuesday 8/25, Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the 2019-2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Giannis led the Milwaukee Bucks to the best record in the NBA and their defense played a major factor. The Bucks held opponents to a league’s low in field goal percentage at 41.4% and Giannis was the captain of that defense.
As you may know, Dr. Seun Adigun is the only Olympian from the continent of Africa that participated in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She represented Nigeria in the 2012 Summer Olympics competing in the 100M Hurdles and was part of the historic Nigerian Women Bobsled team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. As Seun continues to promote participation amongst Nigerian athletes in winter sports, Seun is embarking on a new project. Seun started a philanthropic initiative called Dr. Seun Cares that helps those in need and raise awareness to important global issues.

The Nike Zoom Freak 2 “NAIJA” colorway released this past weekend. Were you able to cop? Besides the shoe itself, the one piece of content that I enjoyed was the photography in this campaign. Nike and Foot Locker Canada gave Nigerian-Canadian Creative Director, Josef Adamu the opportunity to produce and direct this shoot. The photography came out great and I hope more brands continue use creatives in the culture to tell these authentic stories.
The NBA reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo just announced that his second signature shoe is officially on the way. The Nike Zoom Freak 2 will be available on August 7th for $130 USD. Chiney Ogwumike may not be playing in the WNBA bubble next month, but she is continuing to make big moves off the court. ESPN announced that Chiney will be getting her own ESPN National Radio show called Chiney and Golic Jr. The show will begin next month August 17th from 4PM – 7PM EST. I’m excited to see Chiney shine in this new role and continue to grow as a star in the media industry.
Over the past month since the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota, we have seen a rise in protest throughout the world in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The purpose of these protests have been to call out police brutality against unarmed black people, racism, and raise awareness of the systematic oppression against black people as well. Sports has always been considered one of the tools that could bring people from different backgrounds together. During this time period, numerous athletes have begun to use their voice to speak out on these injustices. We want to share some of the work that our fellow Nigerian athletes have been doing to promote change in the world.
