Arike added to her stellar career when she became the Women’s Notre Dame Basketball all-time scoring leader on Friday. She passed Skylar Diggins with 2,358 points and counting. Congrats to Arike on an amazing accomplishment. I’m excited to see how much more points Arike will add to her total before she plays her last game in South Bend.
During the 6th annual NBA Africa All Star Luncheon in Charlotte, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the plan to launch the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2020. The Basketball Africa League will consist of 12 club teams across the continent of Africa set to begin play in January 2020. The NBA and FIBA will conduct qualifying tournaments later this year to make selections for the 12 teams. The BAL will consist of teams representing the following countries: Angola, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia (no more than two teams from the same country will be able to qualify).
All of the stars were on the court last night in Charlotte during the 2019 NBA All Star game. No star shined more than MVP front-runner Giannis Antetokounmpo. Despite the lost to Team Lebron, Giannis had a game high 38 points with 11 rebounds and 5 assist.
“Tough times don’t last tough people do” – Victor Oladipo
I feel like I’m always shouting out Oladipo during my
Motivational Mondays segment. However, after the news of his season ending
injury, I felt like it was only right to highlight his response today. Check
out Oladipo’s full IG response below:
As I stated before, I definitely expect a full recovery by
Oladipo because “tough times don’t last tough people do”.
Giannis Antetokounmpo will make his third NBA All Star appearance on February 17th in Charlotte (second straight year as a starter). Giannis was the top-vote getter in the Eastern Conference and as a result was named the captain of the Eastern Conference squad. Giannis and fellow captain LeBron James will choose their teammates during a televised draft on Thursday February 7th at 7PM EST on TNT.
On Wednesday night versus the Toronto Raptors, Victor
Oladipo suffered a gruesome knee injury. The MRI today confirmed that Oladipo
has a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee. This will require surgery and
Oladipo will be out for the season.
This is devastating news not only to the Indiana Pacers, but
the entire NBA as a whole. Oladipo is one of the bright young stars in the
league. You can tell that his fellow NBA peers respects him just by all of the
get-well tweets after the injury occurred. Oladipo was averaging 18.8 PPG and career
highs in both rebounds (5.6) and assist (5.2) this season. After coming off a
thrilling seven game series vs. LeBron and the Cavaliers in last year’s
playoff, we were all excited to see what Oladipo was going to do in this year’s
playoffs. The coaches will most likely vote Oladipo as a reserve for the
upcoming NBA All Star game in Charlotte.
This is just a minor setback for a major comeback for
Victor. We’ll see you back on the court dominating soon. Prayers up!
This past weekend, Hope4Girls Africa hosted a basketball camp in Abeokuta, Ogun State in Nigeria. This was the 7th edition of the camp. Check out some tweets recapping the event here.
