Nigeria Football 2020 Olympics Kits Unveiled

Via Nike News

Earlier this week Nike released images of the new 2020 Nigeria Football Olympics Kits. After the success of the 2018 Nigeria World Cup kit, there’s no surprise that we’re getting some new threads for the Olympics. Safe to say Nigeria will have one of the best uniforms in Tokyo this summer. Some unique features about the kit below:

  • The kit’s pattern was hand drawn and is highly symbolic of Nigerian heritage with nods to nobility and family.
  • Nigeria’s crest is placed centrally on the chest with a Swoosh underneath it.
  • The player names and numbers integrate the eagle feather into the application.
  • “Naija” appears inside the neck of jersey and on the back of the socks in a new typeface.

What are your thoughts on these designs? Did they surpass the 2018 World Cup designs?

The Lady Falcons defeated South Africa in the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) that took place in Ghana. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) organized the event. After both teams went scoreless in regulation, Nigeria defeated South Africa in penalty kicks (4-3). Check out the highlights below:

Nigeria had several players make the all tournament team including Tochukwu Oluehi (Goalkeeper) and Onome Ebi (Defender). This win marks the Falcons 9th win at the AWCON (1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, & now 2018).

Iwobi

22-year-old star Alexander Iwobi announced on Friday that he has signed an extension with his English Premier League club Arsenal FC. Iwobi, the talented young forward, will be playing in his fourth season with the club. After coming off playing for the Super Eagles during the World Cup, we’re excited to see what Iwobi does on the pitch this upcoming season. Check out some plays below from Iwobi’s previous two seasons with Arsenal:

Super Eagles Defeat Iceland 2-0

In what some considered a must win match, the Super Eagles got their first victory of the 2018 World Cup. Nigeria defeated Iceland 2-0 with both goals from Ahmed Musa.

Check out the highlights here:

The Super Eagles are currently in 2nd place in Group D and are now in position to move into the Knock Out Stage. If Nigeria beats Argentina on Tuesday, they will automatically advance to the next round. However, if Nigeria ties vs Argentina, then we need Iceland vs Croatia to end in a tie as well. Or if Iceland does win & we tie vs Argentina, we need to hope that Iceland does not win by more than 2 goals (goal differential is the first tie breaker in the group stage).

Soar Super Eagles!

Super Eagles Loses Opening Match

The Super Eagles lost their opening match in the 2018 World Cup to Croatia 2-0. One of the goals for Croatia was an own goal by Nigeria and the second goal was due to a penalty against us as well. A tough way to start the tournament, but Nigeria still has a chance to advance if they can take care of business in the final two games. The Super Eagles had 14 shots, but only 2 of those shots were on goal. Check out the highlights below:

The next match will be on Friday 6/22 vs Iceland. Let’s hope for a better showing from our guys.

Nigeria New World Cup Kits Set To Release 5/29

The new Nike Nigeria Super Eagles jerseys will release to the public on Tuesday May 29, 2018. According to reports, Nike has received over three million order of the new Nigeria jerseys. The jerseys will cost $85 USD at retail and can be ordered online or in store. You can read the full story here.

I think that amount of pre order jersey sales is a great thing because it shows brands that the African community will support great product. The African market gets overlooked compared to the Asia & Latin America markets in terms of emerging markets for brands and companies to do business. Hopefully, these numbers will persuade brands to do more collaborations, partnerships, and/or sponsorships with athletes & teams from the continent of Africa.

I was not aware of this presale, so I hopefully I can get my jersey next week.
