Josh Okogie Will Play For Nigeria In FIBA World Cup

Josh Okogie took to Twitter today to announce that he will suit up for the Nigeria National Basketball Team in the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup. The tournament begins on August 31st in China. Okogie had an up and down rookie season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but I liked his decision to play for the Nigeria national team for several reasons.

First, Josh will gain tremendous experience in this international tournament. You’ve seen many players who were able to excel their games from playing in these competitive international tournaments. Finally, I like the decision because this could start a trend of more Nigerian Americans starting to play for the D’Tigers. We have a lot of talented players playing in the United States that can add a major boost to the Nigeria National Team. Hopefully, Okogie’s decision changes the perspective for more guys to want to wear that green white green during these tournaments.
