As you may know, Dr. Seun Adigun is the only Olympian from the continent of Africa that participated in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She represented Nigeria in the 2012 Summer Olympics competing in the 100M Hurdles and was part of the historic Nigerian Women Bobsled team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. As Seun continues to promote participation amongst Nigerian athletes in winter sports, Seun is embarking on a new project. Seun started a philanthropic initiative called Dr. Seun Cares that helps those in need and raise awareness to important global issues.
The WNBA is officially back. The season opener was this past Saturday taking place in the bubble at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Nneka Ogwumike led the Los Angeles Sparks to a win in their opening game vs the Phoenix Mercury. The Sparks won 99-76. Nneka was perfect from the field scoring 21 points (8/8 FGM) while grabbing 7 rebounds. Looking forward to watching Nneka continue to shine on and off the court for the rest season.
The Nike Zoom Freak 2 “NAIJA” colorway released this past weekend. Were you able to cop? Besides the shoe itself, the one piece of content that I enjoyed was the photography in this campaign. Nike and Foot Locker Canada gave Nigerian-Canadian Creative Director, Josef Adamu the opportunity to produce and direct this shoot. The photography came out great and I hope more brands continue use creatives in the culture to tell these authentic stories.
The NBA reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo just announced that his second signature shoe is officially on the way. The Nike Zoom Freak 2 will be available on August 7th for $130 USD. Looks like Giannis will be debuting these shoes once the NBA seasons resumes next month in the bubble since he’s already wearing the new kicks in practice.
Emmanuel Acho is continuing to make major moves in 2020. The former NFL linebacker was just named one of the new co-host of Fox Sports 1 sports debate show “Speak For Yourself” last month. Also, Emmanuel has been using his platform to begin educating people with his popular social series “Uncomfortable Conversations With A Black Man”. Now this inspirational social series is officially becoming a book. Emmanuel announced the book earlier this week on Twitter. The book is set to be on sale later this year on November 10th and you can preorder the book here.
Chiney Ogwumike may not be playing in the WNBA bubble next month, but she is continuing to make big moves off the court. ESPN announced that Chiney will be getting her own ESPN National Radio show called Chiney and Golic Jr. The show will begin next month August 17th from 4PM – 7PM EST. I’m excited to see Chiney shine in this new role and continue to grow as a star in the media industry.
