Giannis Antetokounmpo was the biggest star amongst stars last night during the 2021 NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta. Team Lebron defeated Team Durant 170 – 150 led by the reigning back to back MVP. Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the 2019-2020 NBA Most Valuable Player for the second straight regular season. Giannis led the Milwaukee Bucks to the best record in the league with a record of 56-17. He continues to put up great numbers on a yearly basis with averages 29.5 PPG (5th in the league), 13.6 RPG (2nd in the league), 5.6 APG, and a league leading 31.94 PER.
As I mentioned previously, Giannis joins Michael Jordan (1987-1988) and fellow Nigerian Hakeem Olajuwon (1993-1994) as the only players to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. Giannis received 85 out of 101 first place votes from a total of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.
On Tuesday 8/25, Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the 2019-2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Giannis led the Milwaukee Bucks to the best record in the NBA and their defense played a major factor. The Bucks held opponents to a league’s low in field goal percentage at 41.4% and Giannis was the captain of that defense.
The Nike Zoom Freak 2 “NAIJA” colorway released this past weekend. Were you able to cop? Besides the shoe itself, the one piece of content that I enjoyed was the photography in this campaign. Nike and Foot Locker Canada gave Nigerian-Canadian Creative Director, Josef Adamu the opportunity to produce and direct this shoot. The photography came out great and I hope more brands continue use creatives in the culture to tell these authentic stories.
The NBA reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo just announced that his second signature shoe is officially on the way. The Nike Zoom Freak 2 will be available on August 7th for $130 USD. Looks like Giannis will be debuting these shoes once the NBA seasons resumes next month in the bubble since he’s already wearing the new kicks in practice.

Sports has always been considered one of the tools that could bring people from different backgrounds together. During this time period, numerous athletes have begun to use their voice to speak out on these injustices. We want to share some of the work that our fellow Nigerian athletes have been doing to promote change in the world.
